How to convert a PDF to EPUB (and make it actually readable)

· 3 min read

A PDF is a picture of a printed page. On a 6-inch e-reader or a phone, that means tiny text, endless zooming and sideways scrolling. An EPUB fixes that: the text reflows to fit your screen and your font size, with real chapters you can jump between.

The catch is that most converters turn a PDF into a messy EPUB. Page numbers land in the middle of sentences, words break apart, and chapters vanish. This guide shows how to get a clean one.

Convert a PDF to EPUB with Epubby

There's nothing to install. Epubby does the conversion in your browser, on your phone or computer.

  1. Go to epubby.ai and drop in your PDF (up to 25 MB).
  2. Blizzard reads every page, finds the chapters and tidies the text. You'll see each step as it happens.
  3. Check the result. You can fix the title, author, chapter names or cover before you save.
  4. Save it to your library, download the EPUB, or send it straight to your e-reader.

Saving, clean downloads and sending come with an Epubby membership: pay what you want, from $3 to $7 a month. Become a member.

Tips and FAQs

Which PDFs convert best?

Text-based PDFs: ebooks, articles and documents saved from Word or Google Docs. If you can select and copy the text in your PDF viewer, it will convert well.

What about scanned PDFs?

A scan is a photo of each page. If the scan has a hidden text layer (OCR), Epubby uses it and clears out the junk characters scans tend to have. Without that text layer, pages come through as pictures, so run the scan through an OCR tool first.

What about textbooks with columns, tables and maths?

Simple layouts convert cleanly. Dense two-column pages, big tables and equations are hard for any converter, so check those chapters after converting.

Can I fix the chapter names?

Yes. You can rename chapters, change the title and author, and swap the cover before saving.

Is there a size limit?

Files up to 25 MB.

Can I convert EPUBs too?

Yes. Drop in a messy EPUB and Epubby tidies it the same way: cover, title, author and chapters.

Please only convert files you have the right to use.

Next: get it onto your e-reader

Once your EPUB is clean, Epubby can send it to your Xteink, Boox or Kindle over Wi-Fi. Our guide on how to send ebooks to your e-reader walks through each device.
